October 24th marks World Polio Day, a global day to raise awareness and resources in support of the polio eradication effort. This significant day was stablished by UNICEF partner Rotary International to commemorate the birth of Jonas Salk who led the first team to develop a vaccine against poliomyelitis. Rotarians and other partners are reaching out to leaders and communities, to engage them in the effort, through events, fundraisers and social media campaigns.

Among the many institutional supporters of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), including The World Health Organization, US Centers for Disease Control, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Global Poverty Project and UN Foundation, is Alshair Fiyaz.

On a mission to make the world a little brighter, business mogul and humanitarian Fiyaz paves the way for transformational change in the war against Polio. Driven by a philosophy of inspiring and investing in the human spirit, Fiyaz founded the ALFI Foundation, a charitable organization that has supported the endeavors of making our world a better place since its incorporation in 2017.

For years, Fiyaz invested in a range of projects designed specifically to support the development of under-privileged individuals, communities and wildlife, and to empower social mobility, disregarding international borders and other ethnic and cultural boundaries. The ALFI Foundation believes in supporting organizations determined to influence positive change for current and future generations. Taking an entrepreneurial and multi-faceted approach to philanthropy, The ALFI Foundation considers projects and initiatives that are both positive and pragmatic.

Fiyaz recently partnered with UNICEF to spearhead the eradication of Polio in his native country of Pakistan. The ALFI Foundation’s financial support will help UNICEF realize its ambition of reaching every child with vaccines, strengthening surveillance on the disease, and maintaining technical and medical support for prevention.
